About

s06 tools is a small library of calculators built and maintained by Sam Winters, a systems engineer in Baltimore, Maryland.

Why this exists

Most calculators on the web hide the arithmetic, bury the answer under adverts and interstitials, or ask you to sign up to convert inches into centimetres. The tools here are the opposite: the answer is on screen before you scroll, the formula is written out underneath it, and the assumptions are stated so you can judge whether they match your situation.

Every calculation runs in your browser. Nothing you type is transmitted, stored or logged, because there is no server-side processing to log it with.

How the tools are built

Each tool is a single page with its own arithmetic, tested against hand-worked examples before publication. The default answer is computed when the page is built, so the number appears even if JavaScript is blocked or slow; the interactive version uses the same function.

Where a figure depends on a supplier, a code or a regional standard, the page names the source. Where a result can only be approximate — material yields, waste factors, coverage rates — the page says so in plain words rather than burying it.

Corrections

Accuracy reports are the highest priority here. If a calculator gives you a number you believe is wrong, send the inputs and the expected result through the contact page; corrections ship as soon as they are verified, and the page shows the date it last changed.
